Our Team
I have worked with nonprofit animal rescues for over a decade. My journey began when I discovered a litter of abandoned kittens on my college campus in North Carolina. After taking them to a local animal shelter, I was overwhelmed by the level of suffering and desperation I witnessed there. In that moment, I knew I needed to do more. I began working with a dog rescue focused on saving pit bulls from high-kill shelters in North Carolina. Billy and I later moved back to California, where I spent several years working as a recovery technician at a spay and neuter clinic and fostering for local rescues. During this time ,I developed a passion for the medical side of rescue work, including vaccinating and treating animals. I've witnessed firsthand the dire state of our shelter systems and the critical need for community education and support. These experiences deepened my commitment to animal welfare and ultimately inspired my husband and I to start our own rescue.
Jaymie Huss
President
My passion for animal rescue truly began when I met Jaymie. Her unwavering love and commitment to helping any and all animals in need is deeply inspiring, and being by her side through her journey made it clear that I wanted to dedicate myself to this work as well. I bring a strong work ethic and a hands-on approach to everything we do at the rescue, often handling the heavy lifting—building fences, pig houses, and anything else needed to keep our animals safe and comfortable. I also assist during medical care, safely restraining animals and keeping them calm to ensure everything can be done as smoothly and safely as possible. I especially enjoy spending time with our fosters, helping socialize them and build their confidence as they prepare for adoption.

Animals have always held a special place in my heart, and that love inspires everything I do. As the Secretary of Huss Haven, I help keep things running smoothly both behind the scenes and on the ground. I step in wherever I’m needed—sometimes that means painting pig houses, and other times it means transporting animals to safety. I’m grateful to be part of a team dedicated to making a real difference for animals in need.
